The Century 16 theater where the shooting happened
Before I explain the history of the shooting there is an interesting US Government report predating the massacre itself that was issued by both the FBI and DHS on May 17th, 2012 (64 days before the shooting) stating that terrorists were showing an increasing interest in attacking theaters and an incident like this may happen in the United States, a quote from the report itself reads as follows:
"Although we have no specific or credible information indicating that terrorists plan to attack theaters in the United States, terrorists may seek to emulate overseas attacks on theaters here in the United States because they have the potential to inflict mass casualties and cause local economic damage."
The official story states that on July 20th, 2012 a man named James Holmes entered the Century 16 theater during a showing of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, dressed from head to toe in tactical gear and equipped with numerous guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and tear gas grenades. 12 people died and 70 were wounded at the end of the rampage - however there are some questions that need to be answered regarding the shooting itself.
When he entered the theater he was described by witnesses to be wearing a gas mask, a load-bearing vest, a ballistic helmet, bullet-resistant leggings, a bullet-resistant throat protector, a groin protector, and tactical gloves - his face was completely covered and he was wearing extensive amounts of military gear so really he could've been anyone, the fact that he came so well equipped for a shootout but surrendered himself to the police is also questionable at best and suspicious at worst.
So where did an unemployed mentally ill man get the money to afford all of this? Who knows, but it would've been really easy to set him up for all of this. Combined with the fact that he left a very small digital footprint and was virtually non-existent on the radar when investigated by police makes the case even more strange, especially considering that he spent a large majority of his time on the internet.
His past history of suicidal tendencies and further suicide attempts in prison indicate that he was similar in vein to the NIU shooter, Steven Kazmierczak, who committed suicide after his rampage in the Cole Hall - but it begs the question as to why James Holmes didn't commit suicide or choose to die in a shoot-out with the police, the behavior isn't consistent whatsoever and I doubt that it can just be written off with a simple explanation of mental illness as a desire to die was a consistent throughout Holmes' life so everything that happened would suggest he wouldn't willingly choose to be arrested. Let's look at some photos from the crime scene though.

One thing to point out; James Holmes is claimed to have entered and exited through the emergency exit, taken off all of his gear and strewn it about the entire parking lot (including two different gas masks) then surrendered himself to the police whilst the blood on the sidewalk is from victims who ran through the same door that Holmes did which is just another odd detail in this entire story, but there are a lot more photos to go through.

The situation is certainly strange and the presence of two gas masks heavily implies a second shooter or possible accomplice to Holmes which was actually mentioned as a possibility by at least two eyewitnesses, the testimony of which I'll provide below:

The first one is the most revealing as it describes a man possibly calling Holmes and ushering him into the theater through the emergency exit to open fire on the crowd, the second one elaborates on the above statement as he says that tear gas canisters were thrown from at least two different directions, a detail which certainly makes the case more odd and would explain the presence of two gas masks at the scene of the shooting if there were two people deploying tear gas in the theater.
We're nearing the end but there's one last thing I want to bring up in regards to the shooting and that's the photo inconsistences with James Holmes himself throughout the years as they're important to note and have never been explained despite being clear as day and really easy to notice.

The Highschool and court hearing photo match with the 2012 mugshot photo after he was arrested for the massacre but the college photo is the one that sticks out, according to what information there is the photo was taken at the University of Colorado Denver in 2011 but is the only one that doesn't match up with Holmes' general appearance, even compared to the court hearing photo which was taken in 2013.
So let's put the two photos together and compare them.

The first thing I'll point out is that the 2011 'University Photo' looks more like a mugshot than anything else, but the more glaring difference are in the eye color and the width of Holmes' nose. They are not consistent with photos after or pre-dating 2011 but this is supposedly the same person so his eye color and nose width just changed magically during 2011 and then changed back in 2012, so who is the man from 2011? It's clearly NOT Holmes so why does the media and government say it is? No one knows.
But to repeat the core message; how did a mentally ill, unemployed college student obtain large amounts of ammunition, guns, tactical gear and the resources to manufacture and set up an elaborate system of booby traps inside of his apartment that took a bomb squad hours to defuse?
If we consider the false flag angle it's likely that Holmes was coerced into committing the shooting and the weaponry was supplied to him by a third party, with an unstable man like Holmes it likely wouldn't take much to push him over the edge.
